 Doing Life Together

People come to Pleasant Valley Church at different stages of their spiritual journey. Some come simply exploring what it means to have a relationship with God. Others come, knowing Christ personally, wanting to connect almost immediately with others in significant relationships. Some come only to the Sunday services and benefit from the worship and teaching. Others want to get connected on a more personal basis. We appreciate and celebrate this wonderful fact—that people are coming to Pleasant Valley Church at different stages of their journey with God.
The story of Pleasant Valley is told in the changed lives of people. We believe that the best way for people to grow spiritually is to explore God’s truths as they experience community with others as God intends. We call that, “doing life together.” Small groups are our way of providing a place or context for that to happen. Small groups are a place where spiritual families can form, where people can find their “band of brothers.”

Good Things come in Small Groups, such as…

Meaningful relationships with others.
Growth in your relationship with God.
Increased opportunity for personal ministry to others.

What happens at a small group?

Small Groups are about people connecting in at least two vital areas of life:
Becoming more connected with God.
Becoming more connected with others.

The components of a healthy group are as follows:
Learning and Growing Together—studying and discussing a portion of Scripture or a related book on the Christian life. The focus and emphasis is on life application; how our lives can become more in line with what God desires for us.
Building True Community Together—cultivating open, honest, caring, supportive and enjoyable relationships. Sharing a meal together, enjoying refreshments, going on outings, and so on.
Praying and Worshiping Together—sharing with each other and praying with each other and for one another; giving praise to God together for answered prayer.
Engaging in Ministry Together—members ministering to one another during the group meetings and at other times, the group ministering to others.

How often do small groups meet?

Small groups usually meet once a week or at least twice a month at various times/days with each group deciding their own schedule for the year. Groups meet in homes as well as at the church. In either case the atmosphere and setting is warm and relaxing.

What kind of small groups are available for me?

We have several small group opportunities that are geared to meet various needs and schedules.

1. Growth Groups: These groups meet in homes throughout the community. They are open to couples and singles, and emphasize life application Bible study, prayer and fellowship. These groups meet on various nights of the week.

2. Women’s Groups: small groups are an important part of our women’s ministry. These groups meet primarily on Wednesday Evenings and Thursday mornings for Bible Study and discussion, prayer support and minister to one another. Child care is available.

3. Men’s Groups: If you are looking for an opportunity to connect with other men for mutual encouragement and accountability, consider a men’s small group. Several of these groups meet during the week at various times.

4. Seeker Groups: This is specially designed for the person who is investigating the claims of Christianity. It is a safe place to ask questions and seek the answers at your own pace.
